Using AVATALK in ChatGPT: Help and Support

Connect AVATALK to ChatGPT so drafts sound like you. What it reads, what it never sees, how to disconnect, and how to reach us.

AVATALK in ChatGPT helps ChatGPT write emails, texts, posts and replies that sound like you, using what you already keep in AVATALK.

This page explains what it does, how to connect it, what it can and can't see, how to disconnect, and how to contact us if something isn't working.

What it does

When you ask ChatGPT for something in your voice, AVATALK gives it a short writing brief from your account:

  • Your communication style, the one you approved in AVATALK.
  • Habits measured from your own writing, such as sentence length, capitalisation, punctuation, emoji and how you usually open a message.
  • A few short excerpts of things you wrote yourself, like posts and messages, chosen for the kind of writing you asked for.

For personal messages, it can also look up details you saved, such as a family member's name, nickname or birthday, so the draft uses the right names instead of guesses.

How to connect

  1. In ChatGPT, find AVATALK in the plugin directory and choose Connect.
  2. Sign in with the same method you use in the AVATALK app: email and password, Google or Apple. If you use two-step verification, enter the code from your authenticator app.
  3. Tick what ChatGPT may read, then choose Allow selected.

You need an AVATALK account first. If the sign-in page says no account matches, create your account in the AVATALK app, then connect again.

What you can share

You choose each of these when you connect. Leave a box unticked and ChatGPT can't read it.

  • Communication style: how you write and speak, so drafts sound like you.
  • Writing samples: short excerpts of things you wrote or said in AVATALK, so drafts match how you write.
  • Profile: your name, nickname, overview, location, languages and interests.
  • Family: who your family members are, and when their birthdays are.
  • Memories: a search of your approved memories for what is relevant.

What ChatGPT never sees

  • Your avatars, voices, photos or videos.
  • Other people's profiles, chats or memories.
  • Anything you have not marked as usable by your avatar.
  • Your date of birth, health, religion, ethnicity or other sensitive details.

Getting drafts that sound more like you

The brief can only be as good as what AVATALK holds. The more of your own writing it has, the closer the match. With little saved, drafts stay plain and natural rather than invented.

  • Set up and approve your Communication Style in AVATALK.
  • Add your own writing, such as posts you import or notes you write in My Wiki.
  • Add the people who matter to you in your Bio, so names and nicknames come out right.

Disconnect or change what it can see

In the AVATALK app, open Settings → Connected apps and choose Disconnect. Access stops immediately. To change what ChatGPT can read, disconnect and connect again, ticking different boxes.

Changing your AVATALK password or deleting your account also cuts off every connected app. You can remove AVATALK from ChatGPT's own settings too.

Your data and privacy

AVATALK records when a connected app reads your information, without the content, and shows the last use in Connected apps. What ChatGPT does with the information it receives is covered by OpenAI's own terms and policies.

Read our Privacy Policy for the details. To delete your AVATALK data, see User Data Deletion.

Troubleshooting

  • ChatGPT says AVATALK has little to go on. Add more of your own writing or set up your Communication Style, then ask again.
  • A name or detail is missing. Check that it is saved in AVATALK and that you ticked Family, Profile or Memories when you connected.
  • The sign-in page says no account matches. Use the same sign-in method as in the AVATALK app, or create your account there first.
  • ChatGPT asks you to connect again. Your connection may have been disconnected or your password changed. Connect again to continue.

Frequently asked questions

Can AVATALK send messages or post for me?

No. The connection only reads what you allowed. ChatGPT shows you a draft, and nothing is sent or posted unless you do it yourself.

Does ChatGPT see my avatar, voice or videos?

No. It never receives your avatars, voices, photos or videos, or anyone else's information.

Why doesn't the draft sound quite like me?

AVATALK can only share writing it holds. Approve your Communication Style and add more of your own writing, and the drafts will get closer.

How do I stop ChatGPT reading my AVATALK information?

Open Settings → Connected apps in the AVATALK app and choose Disconnect. Access stops immediately.
